Being the resident Sega fan, I was amused to hear the announcement of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing today from Sega by way of Joystiq.

Off the heels of Sega Superstar Tennis, this game takes that same formula of competing Sega characters, but "switches gears" for the classic Mario Kart approach with character specific vehicles and abilities. The game is being developed by Sumo Digital, who also worked on Outrun Online Arcade and the previously mentioned, Sega Superstar Tennis. With that track record, they certainly are a group well accustomed with handling Sega properties with good results.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is scheduled to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC and Nintendo DS until next year. That unfortunately, is the disappointing part of this story, because from the game-trailer and screen-shots provided after the link, it looks like a lovely game in the works.
