February NPDs Show Big Wins for 360, BioShock 2By: Brad Hilderbrand, Contributing Writer |
February console sales info has arrived via the NPD Group, and it was a good month for hardcore gamers. BioShock 2 took the top sales honors, moving 562,000 units in its first month, and that's just the Xbox 360 edition. Fans of creative new games will also be happy to hear that Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream's experimental interactive drama, rounded out the top 10 with 219,300 copies sold. Here's the full top ten:
It wasn't just a good month for the Xbox 360 software-wise, as the console itself also finished ahead of the Wii in sales for only the second time in its entire existence. While the Nintendo DS still dominated overall sales, the 360 came in a very strong second.
Also worth noting is that while the Wii managed to pull in third this month, it was the only console to see a month-to-month drop in sales, down 67,000 from January. There have been some concerns that the Wii's momentum might be slowing, and if the slouch continues a couple more months it may mean that the Wii has hit its saturation point in the market. Obviously the console is a smashing success no matter how you look at it, but Sony and Microsoft are closely watching this slowdown in the hopes of closing the sales gap.
