Today we expected Sony to deliver to the gaming public a keen first look at their motion controller, and at their Game Developer's Conference presser they did just that along with a official name. Get ready for The PlayStation Move.

On stage in San Francisco, Sony's Peter Dille showcased the main event in front of a crowd full of the gaming press and industry big whigs. It was after addressing a few of the company's upcoming titles, God of War III and SOCOM 4, that the audience was treated to a video displaying what The PlayStation Move could do.

The video was a basic snippet of different games that fully showed off the range and motion the controller had. Your typical table-top tennis game with split-screen multi-player to a Gladiator game that had sword and shield play.

Dille soon after answered one of the most important questions of the event, well somewhat. That being the price and the date.

According to Dille, The PlayStation Move will be available this Fall and in two different flavors. The first being a stand-alone package; including a PlayStation Move controller, a PlayStation Eye, and a game for under $100 US.

The second will be your traditional system bundle. Basically a PlayStation Move set together with a PlayStation 3 console. Dille gave no say on the price, but one certainly would assume it won't be less than $100.

Later Sony VP of Product Development, Scott Rohde, took the stage and detailed more of the advantages of The PlayStation Move.

At first there was a fighting game demo that again quickly demonstrated the range of motion of the device. In one part, the demo player performed a spinning back-hand, by actually spinning 360 degrees. It was rather strange, but rather impressive.

Rohde next explained how the PlayStation Move would be used with current titles. Games like LittleBigPlanet will have players helping or hindering your friend's Sac Boy's progress, allowing them to arrange platforms and pulleys in the level.

Sony even displayed how the game would be used in the upcoming SOCOM 4. At first they firmly stated that you won't be having the player jump up and down, which is certainly a relief to some folks who are quite weary of the whole motion controller fad.

Rather by using the PlayStation Move to play SOCOM 4, you can be sitting down comfortably in a chair. No pointing at the screen either, but just a simple thumb-stick moving set-up.

All in all it was a very good showing for Sony and the PlayStation Move at their 2010 GDC press conference. With the Electronic Entertainment Expo only months away, hopefully we will see more information to come along with added interesting uses for The PlayStation Move.
