LittleBigPlanet previewWho hasn't dreamed of being a tiny burlap person in a world filled with creativity, danger and downright zaniness? Well, hold on to your eco-friendly hemp because in Playstation's newest platformer, you can do just that. In LittleBigPlanet you play as a cute little guy lovingly named Sack Boy-- and believe us, cute is an understatement. As Sack Boy you will learn about the huge world you live in and how to manipulate it to do what you want, all while making you laugh and getting your creative juices flowing.

While the game is focused on the ability to create your own world, Sack Boy and levels, in the beginning of the game this option will not be available. But no need to start an angry letter to your congressman just yet. With the immense options found in LittleBigPlanet, a small tutorial is necessary. The initial story mode will teach you how to operate objects, complete tasks and basically live and create in the unique universe. The total time for you to complete the first area, known as the Gardens, and unlock the customizing options of the game is only about an hour, however it is highly recommended that you continue on your journey in story mode as you collect numerous stickers and items used to make your level unique to your tastes.

Once you have had your fill of the story mode, it's time to start creating your very own levels. For the first few levels, make sure you have set aside quite a bit of time or you may be cutting yourself short and missing out on progress in the game. At first, you will have a few tools to help you get started. While these tools may not seem like they do a lot, as you go through the tutorials with them, you unlock new tools to use. The idea behind this is that you won't have a ridiculous amount of tools at first so you can ease yourself into creating rather than get overwhelmed and discouraged.

LittleBigPlanet previewDuring the regular play of the game, you have two very simple controls; jump and grab. However when you're creating, expect things to get much more complicated. To help simplify things, the developers of Media Molecule have come up with the Poppit. The clever in game menu holds the tools to place stickers, choose backgrounds for your level, and even customize your Sack Boy as you see fit. The Poppit will also appear when you want to change certain parts of your objects. If you need to tweak the time that a box falls or the speed that a rope swings, just have your Sack Boy whip out his neon lasso and access everything you need through the Poppit menu.

Once you have your level tweaked to perfection, you can unload it for others to enjoy. In Share Mode you can paste up your very best levels for others to try out and comment on. By sharing the community can decide if your level is awesome or not so much and comment accordingly so other players will know what to expect. But this feature is used for the levels you create for the entire online community.  While the community-wide levels you create is limited at first to only 3 slots, the amount of levels that you can have accessible to your friends is unlimited (and uncensored). So feel free to create to your little heart's content and just be sure you keep anything inappropriate to your private selection.

The final option worth talking about is the ability to have up to four Sack Boys playing through at a time. During the multiplayer mode, you may even need your friends to help you out. There are plenty of very cool objects and stickers placed throughout the game that will require two people in order to get them. Tricks like having a friend stand on a button so a door blocking a new item remains open long enough for you to snatch it are common in this inventive game. But if you don't have friends online, don't fret. The additional items are never essential to completing the story line. They're just really cool extras to have. If you work better as a creative team, invite your friends into your world-in-the-works to get some artistic insight. Just be wary who you invite in considering everyone on your level during the creating process has equal editing rights and can either be a huge help or completely destroy everything you've done over the past few hours.

LittleBigPlanet previewWith its release so close, it's becoming harder to wait. LittleBigPlanet should definitely live up to the hype it's produced so far. Even if you aren't the creative type, there are plenty of people who are who can provide numerous experiences for everyone to enjoy. With this game giving insight to just how video games are created, we're sure everyone is anxious to show the world just what they're capable of. Start planning out your levels now because LittleBigPlanet is scheduled to hit store shelves October 21 and we hope you have it preordered, because this game is destined to be a huge hit.
