So, its seems that all forms of media can cause insecurities. According to a study, video games can make both girls and guys alike feel insecure about there bodies. In this study males played WWF Wrestlemania (yes, for Nintendo 64) and females played a beach volleyball game, the console was not specified. It only took 15 minutes for the gamers to start feeling bad about themselves, but this was only while looking at the characters who were really muscular or very thin.
Personally speaking I think that pointing this out is very good, my problem with it is that people are feeling insecure about graphics from a Nintendo 64 game, maybe a next-gen console would produce these results, not a 64-bit machine.

Metal Gear genius, Hideo Kojima, has been working on two games, yes you heard it correctly two games! He told Famitsu magazine the news but he did not reveal a lot of details. One game is going to made like past Kojima games, while the other is going to be made and led in an all new direction. Nothing was said about a new IP, but even if its a remake or a continuation of a series, it oughta be good.

The Developer of TimeSplitters and Haze, Free Radical, has cut 140 workers from their staff which leaves them with 40 workers. With this being the case, Free Radical is now up for sale. The relieved workers will be officially let go from the company on the 31st of December. Apparently some companies are already in negotiations with Free Radical for its imminent takeover. So much for a good holiday season huh?

According to an anonymous source, Factor 5, developer of Lair, has closed its doors. Last week, another anonymous source said that the studio had gotten rid of half its staff, now a completely different source has claimed that the studio has officially closed. Here is the statement left by the anonymous source: "We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today" Although the quote was short we have to keep in mind that this comes after the apparent cut of the staff, so we have to take this into consideration. We will keep you updated.

The economy is in shambles and we are in the middle of a change in political power, so its only uniform that we see a rise in taxes. Well in New York's case many things are being newly taxed, things that are being taxed include taxis, cable, non-diet soda, and movies just to name a few. The one tax that can possibly affect the gaming industry is the "iPod tax" the puts a tax on "...purchases of prewritten software, digital audio, audio-visual and text files, digital photographs, games, and other electronically delivered entertainment services to achieve tax parity." This includes all forms of downloadable content, keep in mind this is a 4% increase. Although this is just a proposed tax hike, it is on the table and being considered, so we will have to wait and see if we will have to shell out any more money on our pockets.

About 10 days ago, a odd equation showed up on Konami's website that pointed to a new Metal Gear Solid that could possibly be released on the Xbox 360, the Nintendo DSi, or the iPhone. Then a couple days ago in an interview on Spike TV's Video Game Awards, in reference to the teaser on the website, Hideo Kojima said that we will have to wait a couple weeks to hear an announcement. Then the plot thickened, the Japanese magazine "Famitsu" featured scans of what looked like a Metal Gear Solid game for the iPhone. Finally Konami confirmed that the pictures were of their next game, Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone. So much for trying to build hype for a game, the cat was let out of the bag a little early, but iPhone owners rejoice!

Well apparently games are already being developed for the second coming of the PSP. Some "publisher sources" say that games for the PSP2 are already in development, while there already is another version of the current PSP on the horizon, slated for release in 2009, when do you think we will see this brand spanking new PSP? Its time for speculation.

Microsoft has its fair share of criticisms when it comes to the Xbox 360, the first one that comes to mind is the infamous "Red Ring of Death" but one that often escapes the mind is how discs often become scratched while in the Xbox 360. Turns out that Microsoft knew about this all along, yes, it sucks to hear. While testifying in a "class action suit" a Microsoft employee admitted that they knew that the discs would be scratched if the disc was in the console when moved. Apparently fixing this problem would cost .50 cents towards Microsoft. So knowing that .50 cents is what rendered your $65 (yes, tax included) game useless, thanks Microsoft.
